St. John of Nepomuk in Zwierzyniec commonly called "on the island" or "on the water" is one of the most characteristic monuments of Zwierzyniec and the whole of Roztocze. Due to its picturesque location it is also the most photographed object in the region. The wife of III ordinate Jan "Sobiepan" Zamoyski (future wife of Jan III Sobieski - Marysieńka) ordered the construction of a pond in Zwierzyniec, with an island and a gazebo (theater) on the water. A hundred years later, in 1741-1747, the VII ordinate, Tomasz Antoni Zamoyski and his wife Teresa née Michowski founded a baroque church on the island for the recovery of the ordynat's health and as a votive offering for the birth of the expected son - Clement. Then two rooms were added to the temple: the sacristy and school. The location of the church on one of the islands was to remind the martyr's death of St. John of Nepomuk, who, at the behest of the Czech King Wenceslaus IV, died in the waters of the Vltava, not wanting to reveal the secret of confession. To this day, his figures are to protect against floods and diseases. According to the application, the church was located on the site of the former theater "on the water" although recently it has been increasingly suggested that there was only a gazebo and recreational area so-called "House on the water". The stone and brick stone church, single-nave, baroque, was probably built by the builder Jan Columbani according to the design of the architect Andrzej Bem. A cartouche with the Zamoyski "Jelita" (three crossed spears) and Michowski "Rawicz" (virgin bear) coats of arms was placed on the facade. In the interior there is a polychrome by Łukasz Smuglewicz. The oak main altar houses the painting of MB Częstochowska, and on the gate - the painting of St. John of Nepomuk. There are also two chapels with altars: on the right side of MB (in the altar a picture of the crowning of MB, painting Ł. Smuglewicz?), And on the left - the Sacred Heart of Jesus, on the musical choir there are 4-voice organs, made in 1905 by Biernacki's company. One bell was placed on the wooden belfry in front of the church. Every year at the end of May, during a church fair in honor of Saint John of Nepomuk, a spectacular procession on boats takes place around the church on the water. It is a unique attraction for the inhabitants of Zwierzyniec, but also for tourists visiting the town on the Wieprz.
